The Story of a Misunderstood Chap Called EDM
EDM resembles a harmless giant who looks scary, but is actually innocent.
People have this assumption that EDM is for people who are lazy enough to remember lyrics, wish to chug 4 pints of beers, and sweat while dancing until 4 a.m. It couldn’t get worse.
I don’t know who made this up— but many people don’t even treat EDM as music. It resembles an unwelcomed outcast.
Poor thing.
Even now, EDM (aka Electronic Dance Music) is considered for the generation that’s already nuts, believes in the YOLO thing, and can’t sit still while working.
If you say you like EDM, you may get some odd, judgmental stares. I’m hoping that changes. I want people to realize that EDM can be as good as any other form of music.
I want them to listen to it.
Once.
Because it’s different.
Actually, it’s beautiful
I’d prefer using the word “beautiful.”
Not rocking, cool or killer.
EDM, just like classical, jazz or any other form of music, is capable of eliciting emotions. It gives me goosebumps and even makes me want to cry.
- It can reflect the love
- It can touch you with the vocals
- It can be peaceful and innocent
- It can be felt
In fact, it’s all of those things already.
If you ever thought that EDM was all about a bearded man with a metal guitar in his hand and apathy in his heart, you’re wrong. It’s not about a DJ playing random stuff on the beatbox, either.
It’s a lot of things.
The good ones, for sure.
I fell in love with it when I randomly stumbled upon a few songs and checked out John Saddington’s playlist. I grew curious and searched for some more.
A few months later, my YouTube feed and SoundCloud suggestions were full of EDM. It’s the first thing I listened to this morning while doing my chores.
Perhaps, EDM resembles a harmless giant who looks scary, but is actually innocent. He’s only asking for some love, and willing to give lots of it in return.
Who knows, maybe try playing it at your home and see if your child smiles? In fact, he’d chuckle and dance.
By the way, here’s a quick playlist to for anyone who’s silently been craving for some beautiful music.
1. 3LAU & Said The Sky — Fire (ft. NÉONHÈART)
2. Illenium — Fractures (feat. Nevve)
3. Porter Robinson & Madeon — Shelter
4. Daydream — Giulio Cercato
5. K-391 & Alan Walker — Ignite (feat. Julie Bergan & Seungri)
Alright, that’s enough food for today.
Would you still hate EDM or you'd rather choose to fall in love with it? I don’t know. Either way, it works.
But I suggest that you break the walls you’ve built for no reason and let some EDM drip into your life.
And drop a link to your favorite music in the comments section, maybe.
